Asian bonds seen as safe

This is despite the crisis in Greece and China's volatile equity markets and slowing growth

THE perception of Asia excluding Japan bonds as a safe haven seems to be gaining currency among fund managers despite the Greek crisis and China's volatile equity markets and slowing growth.

The bond markets have had a strong second quarter and although issuance was quiet last week, this was seen as the market taking a breather and waiting for clearer signs, rather than serious contagion fears.
