HSBC Asset Management has appointed Charles Li as its new head of wholesale business for Asia, the bank announced in a statement on Wednesday (Jul 20).

Subject to regulatory approval, Li will take over the post with effect from Sept 1.

As part of his new role, Li will be responsible for covering all wholesale clients in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Japan and Southeast Asia. He will also be responsible for setting and delivering the firms’ wholesale strategy, said HSBC.

Li has over 20 years of asset management experience under his belt. He will be joining HSBC from UBS Asset Management, where he was previously its head of global wealth management client coverage for the Asia-Pacific region, as well as its deputy head of asset management for Hong Kong.

Prior to his time at UBS, he held senior roles at Fortis Investment Management Asia, PCI Investment Management and Allianz Global Investors.

Li will be based in Hong Kong, and will report to the bank’s global head of wholesale Thorsten Michalik as well as chief executive officer for Asia-Pacific and Hong Kong Daisy Ho.
