[JAKARTA] The deputy governor of Indonesia's central bank said on Thursday the rupiah has a chance to appreciate further after gaining almost 1 per cent so far this week.

"I believe the confidence that Indonesia's economy is recovering and is good regarding the fiscal position; and that is a positive push," deputy governor Perry Warjiyo told reporters.

"So that in the future, there is a chance the rupiah will strengthen some more."

The rupiah traded at 12,960 a US dollar on 0450 GMT, down 0.12 per cent for the day.

So far this year, the currency has gained more than 6 per cent against the US dollar.
