STANDARD Chartered has appointed Vinay Gandhi as regional head of Asean and global head of global South Asian community for its private banking segment.

Gandhi will be based in Singapore and will report to Raymond Ang, global head of affluent coverage, when the former joins the bank in the first quarter of 2022, the bank said in a statement on Monday (Oct 25).

Ang said: "Vinay's profound knowledge of affluent clients in Standard Chartered's footprint markets and proven track record in leading effective teams will be a strong addition to our team. I look forward to Vinay's leadership to grow our business to the next level."

Standard Chartered noted that Gandhi has 30 years of international experience in the financial services industry - the majority of which has been in wealth management.

He is joining from Bank J Safra Sarasin, where he was most recently chief executive officer (CEO) for Singapore and deputy CEO for Asia. Before that, he was the head of the bank's ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) division for Asia, and he also covered South-east Asia, international markets and external asset managers.

Prior to joining Bank J Safra Sarasin, Gandhi was regional market manager for South-east Asia at UBS Wealth Management, where he led a team of relationship managers serving high-net-worth and UHNW clients in Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines.

He has also held senior positions with Deutsche Bank and Citigroup Private Bank.

The appointment is subject to regulatory approval.
