Stripe hires PayPal veteran to steer Asia-Pacific business

PAYMENTS startup firm Stripe has hired a veteran from PayPal to head its business in the Asia-Pacific, The Business Times understands.

Rahul Shinghal, who was last PayPal's Singapore-based head of small and medium-sized businesses across several international markets, joined Stripe this month to lead the Asia-Pacific business, he said in a LinkedIn post.

Mr Shinghal spent more than four years as head of PayPal's South-east Asia business, and, all in, had close to a decade of experience with the online payments giant. He will remain based in Singapore for Stripe.

"After 10 wonderful and rewarding years at PayPal, I have joined Stripe to lead the APAC business," he wrote, highlighting the "mission to increase the GDP of the Internet and help entrepreneurs and enterprises across APAC to harness the full power of the digital economy".

"The most inspiring part of my work has been to know that it enables opportunities for entrepreneurs and enterprises; whether it's the handicraft manufacturer in Malaysia or the mid-sized retailer in Tokyo. The world is getting flatter and it's a privilege to continue to be part of that movement."
