ABOUT 5,700 of Top Glove's workers in Meru, Klang will be affected by the implementation of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from Nov 17 to Nov 30, the Malaysian glove maker said on Tuesday.
The number represents around 27 per cent of its 21,000 employees. Top Glove had issued a press statement to clarify reports that said 13,190 workers were affected by the EMCO.
"Our factories in Meru, Klang continue to operate with reduced capacity and workers not under EMCO are working under strict standard operating procedures in alignment with guidelines from the Ministry of Health," Top Glove said.
"The majority of the affected workers are asymptomatic and do not have symptoms like fever or any sickness."
Top Glove said in an exchange filing on Monday that it will seek clarification from the authorities regarding the implementation of the EMCO on specific foreign workers' dormitories in Klang. It added that it will work closely with the authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of its employees, with the aim of flattening the Covid-19 curve and containing the spread of the virus.
Top Glove shares were trading at S$2.15 as at 2.41pm on Tuesday on the Singapore bourse, down S$0.22 or 9.3 per cent.
