Analysts see mixed impact from Iraq crisis

It could become less acute with new sources such as shale gas, deepwater oil fields being added to the energy mix


UPSTREAM oil and gas players, as well as coal miners and palm oil producers will benefit from the Iraq crisis.

But refiners, utilities and transport firms will be possible losers, said OCBC Investment Research.

"Higher oil prices would lead to more oil and gas exploration and production activity, but we point out that sustained high prices are required for this, rather than mere spikes due to geopolitical tensions that erupt every now and then in different parts of the oil producing world," its analysts Low Pei Han and Carey Wong said in a note yesterday.
