Asia ends week in red after days of selling
BATTERED Asian markets, failing to shrug off fears about global trade, growth and corporate earnings, capped the week with losses.
Friday's declines also came on the back of disappointing earnings in the US overnight, from Amazon and Google-parent Alphabet, which fell short of analyst expectations. In China, the Shanghai composite fell 0.19 per cent. Japan's Nikkei 225 slipped 0.4 per cent while South Korea saw sharp losses of 1.75 per cent.
Singapore stocks approached their lowest in nearly 22 months, with the Straits Times Index (STI) down 1.4 per cent or 40.82 points to 2,972.02. Losers outnumbered gainers 261 to 133, after about 1.77 billion shares worth S$1.27 billion changed hands.
