DIMMING economic outlooks and poor earnings from Wall Street blue chips gave investors little reason for cheer, leading markets across Asia to close lower on Thursday.

Singapore's Straits Times Index (STI) fared better than most, closing down a mere 0.11 per cent or 3.82 points at 3,361.05.

Among the news items that dragged sentiment were weak results overnight from Nasdaq-listed rail freight company CSX Corp, and the Bank of Korea's (BOK) first interest rate cut in three years.
