WITH both the US and China confirming that terms of a phase one trade deal have been set, investors can take heart that the relationship between the two economic powerhouses may finally have turned the corner.

US tariffs on Chinese goods due to take effect on Dec 15 have been scrapped, and existing ones reduced in exchange for more agricultural purchases by the Chinese along with a pledge to better protect US intellectual property.

Taken together with the Conservative Party's resounding victory at last Thursday's UK general elections, which provides investors with assurance over Brexit proceedings, there is a sense of relief.
