SOUTH-EAST Asian stocks lost steam on Wednesday after a two-day rally this week as a key deadline in the trade dispute between the US and China loomed.
The public comment period for 25 per cent US tariffs on an additional US$200 billion of Chinese products is set to end on Sept 5, with the tariffs expected to be levied in late September.
In addition, the initial euphoria from the US-Mexico agreement died down in the US as contemplation over Canada's participation set in, noted IG's market strategist Pan Jingyi, leaving the Dow and the S&P 500 index near neutral at Tuesday's market close.
