VIDEO on demand (VOD) is an "entertainment revolution" that is "long overdue", Catcha Group chief executive Patrick Grove told The Business Times, almost shamefaced.

The Singapore-born serial entrepreneur's latest venture is iflix, a VOD service he plans to roll out - at a competitive price - to emerging markets in Asia, Africa and the Middle East and which has been touted as Asia's answer to the American Netflix.

The latter, of course, is known to have pioneered VOD, having introduced in 2007 the Internet streaming of shows and movies, and today boasts over 69 million subscribers. So popular is the service that "Netflix and chill" has become a code for inviting someone over to one's home and no longer just to watch Netflix. The stock, too, has soared to a five-year high of some US$130 apiece.
