THE highest court in Singapore has ruled that the death of a co-owner of a popular Joo Chiat popiah shop was an accident and not suicide, clarifying the definition of the term "accident" in insurance policies in a first-of-its kind case.
The sister of the deceased, Quek Kiat Siong, in 2014 made a S$1.2 million insurance claim against AIA Singapore to make the insurer pay out on two personal accident policies.
