THE slump in Malaysia's consumer demand is not just confined to goods and services. Based on trading data, the equities market has also had a rough 2016 with average daily volume and value traded declining by double digits in the last quarter, according to Alliance Investment Bank.
Bursa Malaysia's fourth-quarter volume and value traded were lower by 34 and 19 per cent year-on-year to 1.43 billion shares and RM1.69 billion (S$511.1 million) respectively, Alliance said of the stock exchange operator which is scheduled to release its last quarter performance in early February.
