HSBC on Wednesday said it has made two Singapore-based senior appointments to strengthen its South-east Asia equities capabilities.

The bank appointed Edward Lee as regional head of equity capital markets, South-east Asia; and Joy Wang as head of South-east Asia equity research. Both were from Deutsche Bank Singapore.

Mr Lee has over 20 years of investment banking and equity capital markets experience. He reports to Chito Jeyarajah, head of equity capital markets Asia-Pacific.

Prior to HSBC, Mr Lee was managing director, co-head of investment banking coverage and head of equity capital markets, South-east Asia at Deutsche Bank Singapore.

Before moving to Singapore, Mr Lee was based in Hong Kong as Deutsche Bank's head of equity linked origination. Previously, he worked as an executive director for Lehman Brothers in Hong Kong covering Asian equity capital markets.

Meanwhile, Ms Wang has over a decade of experience. She reports to Gavin Powell, HSBC Singapore's head of markets and securities services; and Eliot Camplisson, head of equities research Asia-Pacific.

At Deutsche Bank Singapore, Ms Wang was co-head of Asia-Pacific property equity research, and the head of Singapore and Malaysia equity research. She started her career covering Singapore and Asean real estate at JPMorgan Singapore.

Rajeev Sahney, HSBC head of global banking, South-east Asia, said: "Joy and Edward are highly qualified in their fields and their many years of experience will be of benefit to our international clients, supporting them with high-quality research and guidance."

HSBC Singapore chief executive officer (CEO) Tony Cripps said Singapore remains one of eight key growth markets for the group.

"We have continued to build out our regional banking capabilities from the Republic, supporting clients with deeper expertise and increasing our market share in South-east Asia. These appointments reflect another step in our growth ambition," he added.

The bank has been progressively building out its regional coverage since 2018 to capture growth opportunities in South-east Asia with a string of senior appointments.

The most recent is Patrice Conxicoeur as CEO Singapore and head of South-east Asia, HSBC Global Asset Management, as well as Philip Lee, who was appointed vice-chairman of global banking, South-east Asia.
