Indonesia central bank deputy gov says rupiah could appreciate further
[JAKARTA] The deputy governor of Indonesia's central bank said on Thursday the rupiah has a chance to appreciate further after gaining almost 1 per cent so far this week.
"I believe the confidence that Indonesia's economy is recovering and is good regarding the fiscal position; and that is a positive push," deputy governor Perry Warjiyo told reporters.
"So that in the future, there is a chance the rupiah will strengthen some more."
The rupiah traded at 12,960 a US dollar on 0450 GMT, down 0.12 per cent for the day.
So far this year, the currency has gained more than 6 per cent against the US dollar.
