Katz joined JPMorgan in 2005 and left in the summer this year, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was previously with Goldman Sachs Group.

Kapil Bhatia, JPMorgan's global head of energy trading, will step into Katz's role, with Akesh Amin, based in London, backfilling Kapil's role, according to some of the people.

Izzy Englander's Millennium is a multi-strategy hedge fund firm with more than US$57 billion in assets under management, according to its website. Katz joins a team that has at least four other employees managing risk in assets including equities and mortgage-backed securities, according to the company's website.

The fund also added money managers to its Singapore and Dubai offices this year. JPMorgan didn't immediately comment. Millennium and Katz declined to comment.
