OCBC has thrown down the gauntlet in the consumer banking space, and is fighting for greater market share in local deposits, where it still has the smallest take among the homegrown trio.
To do this, it has re-worked its savings account model - drawing deposits in through attractive headline interest rates - and is then powering sales through data analytics. In the last seven years, it has also stolen a march on DBS in becoming the leading bank to administer Singapore's baby bonus scheme.
