Boustead Projects unit fined S$94,000 for illegal drone usage

    BOUSTEAD Projects ' engineering and construction (E&C) subsidiary Boustead Projects E&C on Mar 28 pleaded guilty to 10 charges for the illegal usage of unmanned drones in 2022.

    In a midday filing on Tuesday (Mar 29), the real estate solutions provider said Boustead Projects E&C had a total of S$94,000 in fines imposed on it for breaching the Air Navigation Act.

    A remaining 69 charges - which were announced by the group on Aug 4, 2021 - were also taken into consideration for the purposes of sentencing.

    All 10 charges faced by Boustead Projects E&C were related to the use of unmanned drones by the company at 2 of its construction sites.

    Out of the 10 charges, a total of 8 charges were imposed for operating unmanned aircraft at construction sites located at 18 Kranji Loop and Cleantech Loop without a Class 1 activity permit.

    Another 2 charges were imposed for failure to operate an unmanned aircraft at the Cleantech site in accordance with the Class 1 activity permit granted to Boustead Projects E&C.

    Boustead Projects said it has since reviewed and implemented a SOP (standard operating procedure) regarding permit applications and dissemination, with a view to ensuring that such contraventions will not occur in the future.

    According to the group, the offending activities came as part of Boustead Projects E&C's efforts to leverage on the use of technology to increase the efficiency and productivity of its operations, and to mitigate the disruptions caused by the pandemic.

    Shares of mainboard-listed Boustead Projects were unchanged at S$0.965 as at the midday trading break.
