China: Stocks close 0.88% higher

[SHANGHAI] Chinese shares ended higher on Monday as market sentiment continued to benefit from earlier government measures to stop a month-long rout, dealers said.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index added 0.88 per cent, or 34.76 points, to 3,992.11 on turnover of 688.3 billion yuan (S$151.88 billion). The index rose as much as 1.62 per cent during the day, passing above the symbolic 4,000-point level before trimming gains.
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, rose 1.82 per cent, or 39.87 points, to 2,230.29 on turnover of 631.8 billion yuan.
