EUROPEAN stock markets opened higher on Monday (May 30) on a wave of economic optimism, dealers said.

London's benchmark FTSE 100 index of major blue-chip companies gained 0.4 per cent to 7,616.32 points, compared with the closing level on Friday.

In the eurozone, Frankfurt's DAX won 0.6 per cent to 14,555.04 points and the Paris CAC 40 climbed 0.6 per cent to 6,555.59.

Asian equities also rose as investors rediscovered some verve after the release of healthy US data and as China eases some of its strict Covid curbs in Shanghai and Beijing.

"The relief rally has taken to the global stage as investors mull the possibility of an economic return to form," said Richard Hunter, head of markets at Interactive Investor. AFP
