Europe: Stocks open lower on inflation fears

[LONDON] European stock markets slid at the open Friday following sharp losses in Asia and overnight on Wall Street owing to escalating fears of high inflation that could hinder economic recovery from the pandemic.
London's benchmark FTSE 100 index shed 1.2 per cent to 6,698.58 points.
In the eurozone, Frankfurt's DAX 30 index lost 0.6 per cent to 14,694.95 points and the Paris CAC 40 retreated 0.7 per cent to 6,019.31.
