[LONDON] European stock markets slid in early trading on Friday in a downbeat end to the week, after a subdued performance in Asia.

London's benchmark FTSE 100 index dipped 0.4 per cent to 6,912.55 points, compared with Thursday's closing level.

In the eurozone, Frankfurt's DAX 30 index retreated 0.2 per cent to 15,287.29 points and the Paris CAC 40 was marginaly lower at 6,265.88.

Asian shares struggled to find clear direction after a week spent seesawing to match the prevailing momentum on Wall Street, where trade faltered overnight after tax hike reports.
