Hong Kong, Shanghai: Stocks open lower

[HONG KONG] Hong Kong and Shanghai stocks opened lower Wednesday, following Tokyo down as tensions spike over North Korea and ahead of the release of China's July inflation figures.

The Hang Seng Index was down 0.34 per cent, or 93.88 points, to 27,761.03.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index eased 0.12 per cent, or 4.06 points, to 3,277.81, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, edged down 0.06 per cent, or 1.22 points, to 1,877.94.
