Hong Kong, Shanghai: Stocks sink after China data while Shanghai rises
[HONG KONG] News that China's exports slumped 10 per cent last month sent Hong Kong stocks tumbling for a third straight session Thursday, although mainland Chinese markets recovered early losses to end slightly higher.
The Hang Seng Index slipped 1.61 per cent, or 375.75 points, to close at 23,031.30.
But the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index added 0.09 per cent, or 2.85 points, to 3,061.35 and the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, rose 0.11 per cent, or 2.19 points, to 2,049.31.
