Hong Kong: Shares close with big gains
HONG Kong stocks surged on Thursday (Aug 11) following a strong lead from Wall Street after a bigger-than-expected drop in US inflation raised hopes the Federal Reserve will slow the pace of interest rate hikes.
The Hang Seng Index jumped 2.40 per cent, or 471.59 points, to 20,082.43.
The Shanghai Composite Index climbed 1.60 per cent, or 51.65 points, to 3,281.67, while the Shenzhen Composite Index on China's second exchange added 1.66 per cent, or 36.15 points, to 2,216.98. AFP
