Hong Kong: Shares close sharply higher

    [HONG KONG] Hong Kong stocks racked up healthy gains on Wednesday following the previous day's steep losses, with traders cheered by positive news on vaccines, though they remain on guard about a possible correction following a year-long advance.

    The Hang Seng Index surged 2.70 per cent, or 784.56 points, to 29,880.42.

    The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index climbed 1.95 per cent, or 68.31 points, to 3,576.90, while the Shenzhen Composite Index on China's second exchange rose 1.30 per cent, or 30.35 points, to 2,363.11.
