[HONG KONG] Hong Kong stocks closed lower on Wednesday as investors awaited Federal Reserve chief Jerome Powell's testimony to Congress later in the day for clues to the US central bank's policy direction following a surprise surge in inflation.
The Hang Seng Index slipped 0.63 per cent or 175.95 points to 27,787.46.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 1.07 per cent or 38.02 points to 3,528.50, while the Shenzhen Composite Index on China's second exchange slid 0.88 per cent or 21.90 points to 2,470.07.
