[HONG KONG] Hong Kong stocks closed with steep losses on Tuesday, as traders await the release of US inflation data later in the day, with sentiment soured by concerns over massively indebted property giant Evergrande as well as a new virus flare-up in China.

The Hang Seng Index dropped 1.21 per cent, or 311.58 points, to 25,502.23.

But the Shanghai Composite Index shed 1.42 per cent, or 52.77 points, to 3,662.60, while the Shenzhen Composite Index on China's second exchange fell 0.48 per cent, or 11.95 points, to 2,488.88.
