[HONG KONG] Hong Kong shares tumbled on Monday as news that troubled property giant China Evergrande had suspended trading in the city added to fears about the company's future and possible contagion in the wider economy.

The Hang Seng Index shed 2.19 per cent, or 539.27 points, to 24,036.37.

Markets in mainland China were closed for a holiday.
