HONG KONG stocks opened with a loss on Monday (Oct 17) morning following fresh selling on Wall Street as the rally at the end of last week ran out of steam, with focus turning to the upcoming earnings season. The Hang Seng Index dropped 0.65 per cent or 107.95 points to 16,479.74. The Shanghai Composite Index shed 0.37 per cent, or 11.47 points to 3,060.52, while the Shenzhen Composite Index on China’s second exchange slipped 0.50 per cent or 9.97 points, to 1,974.37. AFP
