Hong Kong: Stocks surge out of the gates

    HONG KONG stocks rallied more than one per cent at the open on Thursday (Aug 11) after a slowdown in US inflation boosted hopes that the Federal Reserve will slow down its pace of interest rate hikes.

    The Hang Seng Index rose 1.17 per cent, or 229.73 points, to 19,840.57.

    The Shanghai Composite Index added 0.42 per cent, or 13.45 points, to 3,243.47, while the Shenzhen Composite Index on China's second exchange gained 0.47 per cent, or 10.18 points, to 2,191.01. AFP
