Over in Hong Kong, the momentum generated by pent-up demand from China early last week was strong enough to ensure an 8 per cent gain for the Hang Seng Index and daily volume that was 50 times than done here.
On Wall Street, a small mid-week rebound gathered momentum as the days went by, helped along by Friday's news that GE is selling off the bulk of GE Capital, an announcement that pushed GE's shares up a stunning 10 per cent.
