Markets set for another volatile week going into US Thanksgiving holiday
US stocks fell last week as developments in trade negotiations and Brexit caused violent swings in both directions.
Ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, investors will remain focused on the smoke signals from Washington and Beijing. The stock market is jumpier than ever, plunging into despair and leaping for joy at every dispatch, no matter how vague, from the trade war.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was teetering on the edge of annual losses on Tuesday, trading below 25,000, when a report emerged that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin had reopened negotiations with Chinese Vice-Premier Liu He. The Dow finished the week more than 3 per cent in the green for 2018.
