[HONG KONG] Shanghai stocks rallied Thursday after a fall of more than three per cent the previous day, as dealers bet on fresh stimulus for China's economy before a key Communist Party meeting next week.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 1.45 per cent, or 48.06 points, to 3,368.74. The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, jumped 3.71 per cent, or 70.06 points, to 1,959.19.

However, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index - which was closed Wednesday for a public holiday - ended down 0.63 per cent, or 143.85 points, at 22,845.37.
