Shanghai: Stocks lifted as China scraps one-child policy
[HONG KONG] Children-related firms helped Shanghai equities end on a high Friday after Beijing scrapped its long-standing "one-child" policy, but Hong Kong slipped in line with a global retreat.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.60 per cent, or 20.38 points, to 3,407.70 - ending the week 0.14 per cent lower.
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, added 1.04 per cent, or 20.99 points, to 2,035.39. It gained 0.92 per cent during the week.
But the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong fell 0.79 per cent, or 179.90 points, to close at 22,640.04.
