Singapore shares jump 1.8% on Friday

SINGAPORE shares closed higher on Friday, with the Straits Times Index up 55.54 points or 1.8 per cent to 3,116.39.  About 2.56 billion shares worth S$1.55 billion in total changed hands, which worked out to an average unit price of S$0.60 per share.

Gainers outnumbered losers 309 to 130.

The most actively traded stock was Genting Singapore, which rose S$0.055 to S$0.945 with 114.5 million shares changing hands.

Other actives included Rex International and Thomson Medical Group.
