Singapore shares open 0.2 per cent down on Tuesday
SINGAPORE stocks opened 0.2 per cent lower on Tuesday, with the Straits Times Index shedding 6.13 points to 3,323.39 as at 9.01am, on the back of mixed US markets overnight. The Dow jumped to its fourth straight closing record on Monday, while the Nasdaq retreated following sharp declines in Amazon and Tesla Motors. Apple Inc, Tesla Inc and Berkshire Hathaway Inc are due to publish results this week.
About 61.4 million shares worth S$61.5 million in total changed hands, which worked out to an average unit price of S$1 per share.
The most actively traded counter was Swee Hong, which rose S$0.002 to S$0.021 with 26.1 million shares changing hands. Other actives included Rowsley and Jiutian Chemica.
Gainers outnumbered losers 65 to 39, or about five up for every three down.
Elsewhere, Japan's Topix gained 0.4 per cent and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Index gained 0.2 per cent. South Korea's Kospi index added 0.1 per cent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 0.1 per cent, Bloomberg reported.
