Singapore shares open up 8.4 points on Thursday

SINGAPORE share prices opened higher on Thursday with the Straits Times Index (STI) up 8.38 points to 2,870.76 as at 9am.
The Nasdaq was close to hitting the 5,000 mark for the first time this year on Wednesday; the S&P 500 Index and the Dow Jones Industrial Average both closed higher overnight.
Top gainers in early morning trade included UOB, Keppel Corporation, and Otto Marine.
Some 27 million shares worth S$28 million changed hands, with gainers outnumbering losers 73 to 37.
