Singapore shares open 8.6 points lower on Tuesday

SINGAPORE stocks slipped at the open on Tuesday following a mixed overnight session in the US, with the Straits Times Index retreating by 0.31 per cent or 8.58 points to 2,778.69 as at 9.02am.
There were 86 losers to 69 gainers, or five down for every four up, after 64.2 million shares worth S$62.7 million had changed hands.
Index heavyweight Singapore Telecommunications eased 0.5 per cent, or two Singapore cents, to trade at S$3.66 as at 9.02am. Jardine Matheson Holdings declined by 0.5 per cent, or 28 Singapore cents, to S$55.19.
Vard Holdings slipped 2 per cent, or half a cent, to 24 Singapore cents. That matched a privatisation bid by major shareholder Fincantieri Oil & Gas.
