Singapore shares open slightly firmer on Wednesday

SINGAPORE shares rose by a modest 0.4 per cent as at 9.02am on Wednesday, with the Straits Times Index up 11.15 points to 2,893.92 following a weak opening in Japan.
About 72 million shares worth S$78 million in total changed hands, which worked out to an average unit price of S$1.09 per share.
The top three most actively traded stocks by volume were all flat. Golden Agri-Resources changed hands S$0.305 with 10.5 million shares traded, while New Silkroutes remained at 0.1 Singapore cent and Ezra Holdings held still at 12.8 Singapore cents.
Singapore Telecommunications eased 0.5 per cent, or 2 Singapore cents, to trade at S$3.69.
Losers outnumbered gainers 104 to 53, or about two down for every one up.
