SINGAPORE stocks fell in early trade on Friday (Apr 8) even as Wall Street stocks booked steady gains overnight.
The Straits Times Index (STI) slid 0.1 per cent or 3.89 points to 3,400.34 as at 9.01 am.
Gainers outnumbered losers 67 to 51 after 58.5 million securities worth S$53.5 million changed hands.
Sembcorp Marine shares were the most actively traded counter on Friday morning, with 8 million shares changing hands. The counter was flat at S$0.104.
Singtel was the most actively traded index counter in terms of volume, falling 0.8 per cent or S$0.02 to S$2.64 after 2.4 million shares were moved.
Jiutian Chemical was also among the top 5 actively traded counters in terms of volume. Some 5.5 million of its shares changed hands with the counter up 2.2 per cent or S$0.002 to S$0.094.

Among the trio of local banks,DBS was trading down on Friday morning, sliding 0.7 per cent or S$0.24 to S$35.09. UOB also fell 0.2 per cent or S$0.05 to S$31.70. But OCBC gained 0.1 per cent or S$0.01 to S$12.27.
Wall Street indices all ended Thursday higher while investors eyed the war in Ukraine and a potentially more aggressive Federal Reserve.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.3 per cent to end at 34,583.57 points, while the S&P 500 gained 0.4 per cent to 4,500.21.
The Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.1 per cent to 13,897.30.
European shares reversed early gains to skid on Thursday, as risks from a hawkish Federal Reserve and Washington's new sanctions on Russia kept investors on edge, while defensive stocks advanced.
The pan-European Stoxx 600 index slipped 0.2 per cent, paring back gains made earlier in the day, after losing 1.5 per cent in its worst session in a month on Wednesday.
Elsewhere in Asia, Tokyo stocks opened Friday higher as investors focused on US monetary policy intended to address inflation.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index was up 0.7 per cent or 183.48 points at 27,072.05 in early trade, while the broader Topix index edged up 0.4 per cent or 8.34 points to 1,901.24.
