Singapore stocks: STI resumes Thursday afternoon up 0.9% on day

SINGAPORE stocks built on their morning gains as trading resumed on Thursday afternoon, with the Straits Times Index advancing 0.90 per cent or 28.61 points on the day to 3,201.51 as at 1.05pm.

Gainers outnumbered losers 162 to 135, after 529.2 million securities worth about S$569 million changed hands.

Among the most active securities, Rex International increased S$0.006 or 3.6 per cent to S$0.173 after 56 million shares were traded, while Tritech was up S$0.002 or 8.7 per cent to S$0.025 with 25.1 million shares changing hands.

Active index stock Singtel traded up S$0.02 or 0.6 per cent to S$3.38 and SGX jumped S$0.19 or 2.1 per cent to S$9.16.

The three local banks were all in the green. DBS advanced S$0.52 or 2.1 per cent to S$25.57, UOB gained S$0.42 or 1.7 per cent to S$25.95 and OCBC was up S$0.19 or 1.8 per cent to S$10.87.

Elsewhere in Asia, Hong Kong, Seoul and Taipei each added on more than 1 per cent, Tokyo added 0.2 per cent by the break and Jakarta rose 0.3 per cent.

In contrast, Shanghai dipped 0.2 per cent, while Sydney lost 0.7 per cent and Manila declined 0.5 per cent.
