Taiwan: Stocks down; TransAsia rebounds

[TAIPEI] Taiwan stocks declined 0.15 per cent on Tuesday, though embattled air carrier TransAsia Airways Corp rebounded after heavy losses in the wake of a recent crash.

As of 0217 GMT, the main TAIEX index fell 14.24 points to 9,407.26, after closing down 0.37 per cent on Monday.

TransAsia was up 1.33 per cent, helping the overall transport subindex notch a 0.95 per cent gain.

The low-cost airline had slumped 15 per cent in the wake of a crash last week that killed 40 people.

The electronics subindex was down 0.45 per cent, held back by semiconductors, which shed 0.64 per cent.

The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.095 to stand at T$31.465 to the US dollar.
