Taiwan: Stocks up on overseas markets rise, buying after holiday

[TAIPEI] Taiwan stocks were higher on Tuesday, tracking overseas markets as investors returned from a long holiday weekend.

As of 0150 GMT, the main TAIEX index was up 0.34 per cent to 9,633.40, after closing up 0.97 per cent on Thursday.

Taiwan's financial markets were shut on Friday and Monday for a public holiday.

The main index continues to try to break past 9,700, which it last breached on a closing level in late March.

The electronics subindex was up 0.2 per cent, while the financial subindex gained 0.1 per cent.

The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.204 to stand at T$31.099 to the US dollar.
