Taiwan: Stocks stabilise; techs, banks up

    [TAIPEI] Taiwan stocks rebounded 0.5 per cent on Friday, tracking overnight Wall Street gains with tech heavyweights such as TSMC leading the way.

    About 10 minutes into trade, the main TAIEX index had climbed to 9,626.68 points, easing from a 1.1 per cent drop in the prior session.

    The electronics sub-index added 0.7 per cent, while the world's top contract chip maker TSMC jumped 0.34 per cent.

    Touch panel maker TPK Holding was up 3 per cent.

    Banks also traded in the positive territory, up 0.5 per cent.

    The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.16 to stand at T$30.490 to the US dollar.
