[TAIPEI] Taiwan stocks rose on Thursday, led by some tech shares and mainly following peers in the region due to lack of cues at home.

As of 0216 GMT, the main TAIEX index rose 0.4 per cent to 9,732.73, after closing up 0.3 per cent on Wednesday.

Asian shares were up on vague hopes of a rescue deal for Greece, which was helping to drive Taiwan shares led by tech names.

Among actively traded counters, display maker AU Optronics was 0.9 per cent higher, while contract electronics maker Hon Hai Precision rose 1.2 per cent.

The electronics subindex was up 0.8 per cent. The financial subindex was down 0.1 per cent.

The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.115 to stand at T$30.610 to the U.S. dollar.
