US stocks were more or less flat last week as earnings, merger and election seasons presented pleasant surprises in some areas and nasty shocks in others.
This week, the bull market may awake from its slumber if earnings from Silicon Valley powerhouses like Apple, Amazon and Google's Alphabet are suitably impressive. A mega deal between phone carrier AT&T and studio giant Time Warner could also lift a sector that's been under assault from Silicon Valley.
Markets are coming to grips with the overwhelming likelihood of a Hillary Clinton victory as Republican candidate Donald Trump came out of another debate making headlines for the wrong reasons. This time, the pundits and politicians were lining up to condemn Mr Trump for indicating that he might not concede defeat, even if the election results show a Clinton victory.
