Tokyo: Shares open higher on gains on Wall Street

[TOKYO] Tokyo shares opened higher on Thursday as a weaker yen provided support to exporters following a positive lead from Wall Street and oil prices rebounded from steep falls.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 0.43 per cent, or 67.68 points, to 15,983.47 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares gained 0.40 per cent, or 5.11 points, to 1,289.64.
