Tokyo: Shares open higher on Wall St gains, oil rise

    [TOKYO] Tokyo shares opened higher on Thursday as modest gains on Wall Street and a big jump in oil prices boosted sentiment, despite lingering worries about global growth.

    The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 1.01 per cent, or 168.80 points, to 16,811.00 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares gained 0.95 per cent, or 12.62 points, to 1,344.95.
